A Decade of Moodle and BigBlueButton at XJTLU: Architecture, Operations and Lessons Learned

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has operated Moodle and BigBlueButton as core components of its digital learning ecosystem for many years, supporting both asynchronous and synchronous teaching at scale.

Hanson's session will share XJTLU’s experience in deploying, integrating, and operating Moodle and BigBlueButton within a university-wide learning environment. Topics will include platform architecture, operational challenges, scalability considerations, support for online and blended learning, and lessons learned from large-scale adoption. He will also briefly explore future opportunities in AI-enhanced platform operations, learning analytics, and digital learning services.

Session attendees will gain practical insights into the long-term management of Moodle and BigBlueButton in a higher education setting and learn about strategies that can help improve sustainability, reliability, and user experience.
