BigBlueButton for Drupal 10 & 11: Deep Native Integration of BigBlueButton into Drupal

Christian Zange, Managing Director at think modular - digital solutions GmbH will present BigBlueButton NG, a modern integration module for bringing BigBlueButton natively into Drupal 10 and 11. Instead of treating BigBlueButton as an external tool, the module integrates BBB directly into Drupal’s entity ecosystem — enabling site builders and developers to create powerful collaboration and virtual classroom experiences fully inside Drupal.

Christian’s presentation will be focusing on the module itself, including:

·       Module architecture and design principles

·       BigBlueButton entity integration

·       Field-based BBB room integration

·       Meeting creation and configuration

·       Recordings and presentation management

·       Permission and role handling

·       Group and Event integrations and lessons learned during development.

 

He will also demonstrate practical implementation examples and showcase how the module enables Drupal developers to build highly customized virtual collaboration solutions without leaving Drupal’s native architecture.

·       architectural differences compared to older BBB Drupal modules,

·       and how modern Drupal concepts such as entities, plugins, fields and workflows make much deeper BigBlueButton integrations possible.

Christian Zange has been part of the open-source community since 2001 and has spent more than two decades exploring how people learn, collaborate, and share knowledge in digital environments. Trained as an educator rather than a computer scientist, he began working with digital learning long before virtual classrooms, online communities, and learning platforms became mainstream. Since then, he has helped universities, public institutions, and international organizations across Europe and Africa design open digital environments for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
