Nos últimos dez anos, o serviço de ConferênciaWeb da RNP, baseado no BigBlueButton de código aberto, vem ajudando na transformação digital da educação e pesquisa no Brasil. Reconhecido por sua facilidade, recursos, estabilidade, segurança e inclusão, o serviço é utilizado nas universidades federais e estaduais, institutos federais e unidades públicas de pesquisa, preparando-os para os desafios futuros. Com mais de 43 milhões de acessos desde 2014, o serviço oferece recursos de colaboração, salas interativas, gravações, integrações com Moodle e outros serviços da RNP como Eduplay e FileSender e ainda as iniciativas recentes como interpretação vocal, aplicativo móvel e totalmente remodelado o serviço só se consolida e se fortalece em seu papel na democratização e acesso ao conhecimento. Esta apresentação mostra como a RNP construiu essa jornada de inovação e inclusão digital, e o que está por vir.

 

A decade transforming education in Brazil based on BigBlueButton

Over the past ten years, RNP’s ConferênciaWeb service, based on the open-source BigBlueButton, has been instrumental in the digital transformation of education and research in Brazil. Recognized for its ease of use, features, stability, security, and inclusiveness, the service is widely adopted by federal and state universities, federal institutes, and public research units, helping prepare them for future challenges. With over 43 million accesses since 2014, the platform offers collaborative tools, interactive rooms, session recordings, integration with Moodle, and other RNP services such as Eduplay and FileSender. Recent initiatives—such as voice interpretation, a mobile app, and a fully redesigned interface—further consolidate and strengthen its role in democratizing access to knowledge. This presentation highlights how RNP has built this journey of digital innovation and inclusion, and what lies ahead.

About Wescley 

Originally from Arcoverde, Pernambuco (Brazil), Wescley Patrick started studying computers on his own as a self-taught learner and witnessed the birth of the internet. He holds a degree in Systems Analysis and Development and a specialization in computer network security. Like many “IT guys,” he had to be multidisciplinary: in development, he worked on banking and commercial systems; in networking, he managed networks and VoIP infrastructure. Wescley has also led teams and participated in social projects focused on digital literacy. He is currently part of RNP (Brazilian National Research and Education Network), where he works as a Product Owner responsible for the ConferênciaWeb service, which contributes to the advancement of education and research in Brazil.
